NEW CASTLE — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is inviting public comment on plans for replacing Wampum’s Main Street Bridge.

Plans for the span over Wampum Run will be presented at an open house from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Wampum Fire Department, 709 Church Street.

The plans will describe project details, traffic impacts, scheduling and other information. PennDOT’s project team will be available for questions and comments.

Tentatively scheduled for construction in 2014, the new bridge will replace the existing 50-foot long structurally deficient bridge built in 1918.

Traffic will be detoured for about three weeks during construction. About 4,467 vehicles use the bridge on an average day.

Residents and property owners seeking additional information may contact Lou Ruzzi, project manager, at (724) 429-4893 or by email at lruzzi@pa.gov.
