SRU to host shale summit

NEW CASTLE — Slippery Rock University will host a summit Tuesday to educate local businesses about the Marcellus and Utica shale industry.

The session, called Shale Summit II, will be a joint venture of the university, the Grove City Area and Butler County chambers of commerce and WISR/WBUT radio.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the university’s Smith Student Center.

“This will be a great business-to-business opportunity for anyone in the region to showcase their services and products to others involved in the industry,” said Kurt Schimmel, dean of Slippery Rock’s college of business, information and social sciences.

“The event is being billed as a Utica and Marcellus Informational Trade Show.”

Richard Grimm, associate professor in SRU’s school of business, will lecture on the economic impact of drilling.

Angela Bernardo, assistant professor of safety management, will discuss occupational safety. John Golden, instructor in the School of Business, will lecture on personal finance.

Anyone interested in joining the show, which includes exhibition booth space and radio promotions, should call one of the chambers.
