NEW CASTLE — Mahoning Township will get $53,000 for an easement on property in Edinburg.

The supervisors unanimously approved a contract Tuesday allowing Pennant Midstream — a Marcellus Shale oil and gas development company — to run 100 feet of pipe through township-owned property off First Street. The area affected is .17 acre, according to Vito Yeropoli, supervisor chairman.

Pennant Midstream is a joint venture between NiSource Inc.’s Midstream Minerals Group of Merrillville, Ind., and Hilcorp Energy Co., a gas and oil exploration and development company based in Houston, according to a July 9, 2012, article on the NiSource company website.

That joint venture was formed to install pipeline to gather and process gas from production in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania at a $300 million processing plant to be built in Springfield Township, Ohio, according to the Feb. 15 edition of “The Business Journal.”

Also at their meeting Tuesday, the supervisors raised the admission fee at the Mahoning Township Pool from $4.50 to $5.00 for the upcoming season.

The pool manager will be paid $10.60 hourly, while returning lifeguards will make $7.90 and clerks, $7.50 per hour. All three rates reflect a 2 percent increase. New hires for lifeguard and clerk will be paid $7.75 and $7.25 respectively, the same as last year’s new employees.

Yeropoli said the township also will hire a part-time worker at $10 per hour to cut the grass during the summer.
