A pending criminal trial for the former Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV executive director has been continued again in Mercer County.
Police: Man dies trying to help friend ‘who had too much to drink’
Police said a Sharpsville man killed his friend while fighting off his attempts to drive him home from a bar. “Two friends, one had too much to drink on a holiday,” Police Chief Keith A. Falasco said. “The other trying to get him home and that’s what it turned into.”
Vogel to host veterans outreach van

County to continue saving energy
Lawrence County is about to enter the second phase of a major energy saving upgrade for its buildings. Joe Price of Johnson Controls, a global company with offices in Youngstown, told the county commissioners Tuesday that the program started in 2008 for $2.2 million has been more successful than anticipated.

City council proposes new park fees
Fees for use of New Castle parks are being adjusted. City council has introduced an ordinance establishing a fee schedule for Cascade Park and Darlington Park that will run from 2014 through 2016.
Bike trail to close for repairs
The Stavich Bicyle Trail will be closed for four days in July. Lawrence County has contracted with Butch & McCree Paving Inc. to seal the surface of the trail.
