Interstate builders want to store waste

NEW CASTLE — A company working on Interstate 376 improvements is looking to store its waste temporarily on a North Beaver Township property.

The Lawrence County commissioners Tuesday acknowledged a notification letter from Hunt Valley Environmental of New Kensington about the plans, which involve stockpiling concrete and other construction materials off the west side of the interstate near Vance Road on property owned by the turnpike commission.

Swank Construction Co., which has a contract for the road work, is seeking a permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for the site.

The area is to be used as a staging and stockpiling area and will include a temporary concrete washout pit, according to the letter.
