Gas pipeline work set for Wampum

NEW CASTLE — Columbia Gas has a pipeline improvement project planned in Wampum this month.

The utility said it intends to spend $300,000 on the project.

The company will replace approximately 3,400 feet of steel and cast iron pipe with state-of-the-art plastic pipe along Clyde Street, Main Street Extension, East Clyde Street, Kay Street and Water Street.

The entire project will benefit 65 customers and is expected to be completed by mid-December.

Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with temporary lane restrictions possible during working hours.

The construction work will require a temporary interruption of natural gas service for individual customers while their service is connected to the new gas main. Columbia will make personal contact with customers prior to shutting off service and to schedule service restoration.

All Columbia employees and contractors carry identification cards bearing their names, photographs and identification numbers.
