NEW CASTLE — Union Township auditors have set the pay for the new township assistant director of public services position.

The  supervisors at their monthly meeting last week  named supervisor Rob Eckert to the position.

The auditors Monday set his pay at $22.50 per hour.  Eckert is also township secretary-treasurer.

The new post was needed due to the unavailability of supervisor chairman Pat Angiolelli, who serves as public services director. The position was formerly known as “road master,” and shared by all three supervisors.

The wage set by township auditors is the same as the wages of Angiolelli, who currently is on medical leave. Angiolelli’s duties include road maintenance, patching and ditching, code enforcement, and overseeing grass cutting through the summer and snow plowing through the winter.

“We’ve had assistant positions in the past,” Angiolelli said, adding, “Due to the code enforcement aspect, the job is a little overwhelming for one person.”

Eckert is expected to remain in the assistant’s position even after Angiolelli returns to work in the next few weeks.
