Hearing set on military retirement pay

NEW CASTLE — The state House Democratic Policy Committee will conduct a hearing on Monday at Slippery Rock University.

The purpose of the hearing, to run from 3 to 5 p.m., is to discuss proposed legislation that would provide judicial oversight in determining how military retirement pay should be distributed for divorced military retirees.

State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, sponsor of the legislation, requested the hearing, which will take place in the Robert M. Smith Student Center’s ballroom A, 1 Morrow Way, in Slippery Rock. Gibbons will chair the event.

Currently, military retirement pay is not excluded as marital property and is often subject to division, regardless of the length of marriage or military service.
