Axion Power reports sale for solar project

NEW CASTLE — Axion Power of New Castle has received an order for one of its PowerCubes for a solar project.

The $320,000 purchase order is for a cube that will provide storage for energy created by a solar panel system.

The company said it expects to ship all equipment to the site in the current quarter of 2013, with installation to begin immediately.

Tom Granville, Axion Power chairman and chief executive officer, noted that inquiries on PbC-enabled energy power systems and the PowerCube have increased substantially in the last several months from potential customers throughout the U.S. and from island nations in the Caribbean.

Granville said in the islands, and in other offshore territories, renewable energy has become increasingly important because the grid — where it is available — is not always reliable, and fossil-fuel generated energy has continued to rise in expense, and has continued to pollute the environment.

“This solar initiative is exactly the kind of application we have been targeting since we first introduced the PowerCube,” Granville added. “We have also been working toward an ongoing strategic relationship with both the developer and the end user of this initial solar system.”
