Union Township hires policeman

NEW CASTLE — The Union Township supervisors Wednesday hired Ryan Tanner as a part-time policeman.

He is to be paid $14.24 per hour. Tanner’s hiring will save the township money on overtime, officials said. It brings the police force to six part- and four full-time officers.

The supervisors also changed next month’s regular meeting to 8:30 a.m. Dec. 12.

The proposed 2014 budget is available for public inspection at township offices on Municipal Drive. Final action on the budget is set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 27 at the township offices.

Supervisor Pat Angiolelli said the 2014 budget is about the same as this year’s and taxes will remain the same.
