School board waiting for audit finding review

NEW CASTLE — The New Castle Area School District apparently has findings in an audit of two previous school years.

At a special budget meeting Tuesday, the board was prepared to discuss the findings, which cover the 2008-’09 and 2009-’10 school years. However, acting superintendent Stanley Magusiak postponed the discussion because district solicitor Charles Sapienza did not attend that meeting.

He told the board he would prefer Sapienza be present during discussions, and intends to bring it up at Monday’s committee of the whole meeting.

Members of the State Auditor General’s office presented the findings to the board at a meeting in October that was attended by a quorum of the board and administrators.

Magusiak said a board member just recently requested he put the matter on a meeting agenda for public discussion.

The state auditor general’s office routinely posts audits and findings of school districts statewide. However, the report in question is not yet available online.

Susan Woods, a spokeswoman for the auditor general’s office of communications, said late Wednesday afternoon she was trying to confirm whether or not that particular audit report has been made public yet.

The findings would concern compliance specific to state subsidy and reimbursements for the school years ending in 2009 and 2010.
