EnTech Industries to locate in New Castle

NEW CASTLE — The former Elliott Bros. Steel plant in Mahoningtown has been purchased by EnTech Industries.

The Minnesota-based firm produces dust collectors for industries that do bridge painting and for the shale gas drilling industry.

Linda Nitch, executive director of the Lawrence County Economic Development Corp., said the company plans to have at least 25 jobs at its New Castle plant.

She said the company has begun hiring, but could not provide a date when EnTech would begin manufacturing at the site.

The building at 1038 N. Cedar St. has 50,000 square feet.

Elliott Bros. Steel, which had 114 years in the cold rolled strip industry, closed in 2007.

A company statement at the time said it had closed because of the pressure felt from “foreign imports in raw materials as well as manufactured parts entering the country at costs lower than our customers are able to produce.”

An attempt to reach an EnTech Industries official for comment Friday was unsuccessful.
