Police: Man shoved school principal

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man accused of shoving a school principal is facing several charges.

New Castle police arrested Kevin M. Cassidy, 42, who has addresses of 207 S. Crawford Ave. and in Union Township.

Police said he went to the West Side School around 9 a.m. Monday to discuss a disciplinary problem of a student with principal Dr. Carmen Nocera, became upset and shoved Nocera into a counter.

School office workers contacted city police, but Cassidy left before officers arrived.

Two people who work at the school said they saw the incident.

Police arrested Cassidy at the Crawford Avenue address and charged him with aggravated assault, a felony; simple assault and disorderly conduct as misdemeanors; and harassment, a summary offense.

According to state law, aggravated assault is committed if an individual attempts to cause or intentionally or knowingly causes bodily injury to a teaching staff member, school board member or other employee of a public school or attempts physical menace to put any of such employees in fear of imminent serious bodily injury.

Cassidy was arraigned by District Judge Jennifer L. Nicholson, who set bond at $1,000. He has since posted bail.
