NEW CASTLE —
A pedestrian hit while crossing East Washington Street yesterday was complaining of leg and hip pain.
New Castle police said Harvey Dickson, 51, of 719 Rear Mable St. was crossing the street at the crosswalk near the former Hudson Lunch around 11 a.m. when he collided with an sport utility vehicle driven by Louis DeNome, 64, of New Wilmington.
Dickson was taken by ambulance to Jameson Hospital.
DeNome told police he turned left from Mercer Street onto East Washington Street, behind the pedestrian who was walking north. He said Dickson appeared have jumped in front of his vehicle as he turned.
A witness told police the pedestrian appeared to be weaving while walking north in the crosswalk. She said she did not know how he ended up in front of DeNome’s vehicle but she saw him on the vehicle’s hood.
Police said Dickson was knocked to the ground about 15 feet from the crosswalk.
