Former Lawrence County resident Mae Engle Sigmann, 92, of 314 King Charles Lane, Cary, N.C., died the afternoon of Nov. 26, 2007, in Western Wake Medical, Cary.

Born May 25, 1915, in Ashtabula, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Arthur L. and Agnas Ryden Nelson.

She was married to Richard Sigmann. He survives.

Her first husband, Ralph Joseph Engle, died in 1976.

Mrs. Sigmann was a teacher for 38 years in the New Castle Area School District.

She did extensive traveling and enjoyed reading.

Mrs. Sigmann was a former member of Bessemer Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Arlene Isabelle Foster of Denver; a son, William Nelson Engle and his wife, Candace, of Cary; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband; two brothers, Arthur L. Nelson and Robert L. Nelson; and two sisters, Jean Marbel Bonar and Lola Virginia Nelson.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington.

A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
