James R. Morris

Former Pine Street resident James R. Morris, 90, died the night of Nov. 25, 2007, in Golden Hill Nursing Home.
Born April 18, 1917, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Elmer J. and Freida M. McCluskey Morris.
He married the former Edna Bigley on May 9, 1940. She survives.
Mr. Morris worked for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad as a clerk for 41 years in New Castle and Youngstown, and was a freight agent in New Castle, Elmira, N.Y., and Youngstown.
He was a New Castle High School graduate.
Mr. Morris was an Army corporal during World War II.
He was a member of American Legion Post 343 and managed Pony League baseball in the 1950s.
Mr. Morris enjoyed hunting, bowling, roller skating, golf and travel.
He was Protestant.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Charlene Donley of Ellwood City and Carolyn Slack of New Castle; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Earl Morris.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis Bupp and the Rev. Charles Fombelle of Calvary Independent Church will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Veterans Honor Guard.
