Cynthia 'Cindy' Germaine

Cynthia “Cindy” Germaine, 55, of Pittsburgh, formerly of West Pittsburg, died the morning of Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, in her home.
Born Dec. 1, 1951, in New Castle, she was a daughter of Anthony “Edger” Jr. and Lillian Carangi Germaine. Her father preceded her in death. Her mother survives in West Pittsburg.
She was a teacher of the hearing impaired for the Pittsburgh Public School District.
Through the years, she was a foster parent for 17 children.
She also served as an interpreter for the deaf community.
Miss Germaine received a degree in special education from Duquesne University and earned her master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
She developed the hearing impaired choir, The Silent Singers, at Westwood Elementary School.
She was active in the Cursillo Movement, serving as a music director.
Miss Germaine was a member of St. Justin Parish of Pittsburgh.
In addition to her mother, survivors include 16 foster children and her many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony “Rock” Germaine III; a foster son, Dennis Santiago; maternal grandparents, Anthony and Antoinette Germaine; paternal stepgrandmother, Lucy Germaine; and maternal grandparents, Thomas and Annie Carangi.
Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday for St. Vincent de Paul Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The Rev. Thomas Sparacino, Miss Germaine’s cousin, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
