Albert F. D’Ambrosia, 84, of Rhodes Estates died the night of Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, in his home.
He was born May 4, 1923, in New Castle, a son of the late James and Diana Natale D’Ambrosia.
He married the former Florence M. Izzo on Jan. 16, 1944. She survives in New Castle.
Mr. D’Ambrosia was a New Castle police officer, retiring after 38 years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific with the 35th Portable Surgical Hospital. For his service he received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Rosemary Park of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Anne Navarra of New Castle; a son, Albert Anthony D’Ambrosia of Boalsburg, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Nicholas D’Ambrosia, Joseph D’Ambrosia, Anthony D’Ambrosia, Patsy D’Ambrosia, John D’Ambrosia and Rocco D’Ambrosia; and four sisters, Mary Viggiano, Josephine Parthenes, Eleanore Frasso and Vincenza D’Ambrosia.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the William F. and Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday for St. Mary Church of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. James Downs of Christ the King Parish will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lucy Cemetery. Military rites will be performed at the cemetery by the New Castle Area Veterans Honor Guard.
