Robert E. Rice, 84, of 531 Smiley St., Ellwood City, died the night of Nov. 19, 2007, in the Mary Evans Care Center of Ellwood City Hospital.
Born Dec. 9, 1922, in Ellwood City, he was a son of the late Oran and Ethel McKelvey Rice.
He married the former Irene Moldovan on Nov. 11, 1951. She died April 18, 2007.
Mr. Rice worked for Railway Express Agency, the Garrett Co. for 31 years until retiring in 1984 and Turner Funeral Home.
He was a 1943 graduate of Lincoln High School.
A World War II Army veteran, he served as a military policeman and supply sergeant.
Mr. Rice attended St. Elias Orthodox Church in Ellwood City, where he was president of the congregation.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Roweine Rice of Valencia, Pa.; a sister, Ellen Remier of Ellwood City; and nieces and nephews, Bette Baney and John DeLoia Thomas, Richard and Elizabeth Remier, Adam and Barb Moldovan, Susan Reed and Amy Moldovan.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Baney.
Calling hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Turner Funeral Home, 500 Sixth St., Ellwood City.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.
