James J. Giannone


New Castle News

James J. Giannone, 84, of Golden Hill Nursing Home, formerly of Wildwood Avenue, New Castle, died Thursday evening, Nov. 15, 2007, at Jameson Hospital in New Castle.

He was born Oct. 4, 1923, in New Castle, a son of the late Francesco and Mary “Marie” Mariorana Giannone.

He was married to Irene M. McConnell Giannone. She died on June 17, 2006.

Mr. Giannone was an inspector at the former Shenango China, retiring after 45 years.

He was a member of the Mary, Mother of Hope Parish, the Eagles Club and the Duca Degli Abruzzi Club.

Mr. Giannone enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by two sons, Frank J. Giannone and James R. Giannone, both of New Castle; one daughter, Mrs. Todd (Maryan) Stoner of New Castle; two sisters, Rose Liss of Ellwood City and Margaret Dietrich of New Castle; and two granddaughters, Kayla and Hope Stoner, both of New Castle.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. John Jerome; and his sister, Ann Barberio.

Visitation will be held at the William F. and Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave., on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, from 2 to 5 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Church. The Rev. Robert Zajdel of St. Vitus Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 a.m.

Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens in New Castle.
