Virginia L. Riggans, 54, of 1406 Mount Hermon Church Road died the night of March 19, 2008, in Magee-Womens Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born March 7, 1954, in New Castle, she was a daughter of Robert and Betty Peterman McFarland. They survive in New Castle.
She married John E. Riggans Jr. on April 19, 1975. He survives.
Mrs. Riggans worked at Passavant Memorial Homes in Rochester and cared for the mentally handicapped.
She was a 1972 graduate of New Castle High School.
Mrs. Riggans loved animals and enjoyed weekend trips to Mountaineer, shopping, spending time with her grandchildren and vacationing in Myrtle Beach.
She was an organ donor.
Mrs. Riggans was a former member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa A. and Michael Conley of New Castle; a son, John E. Riggans III of New Castle; a brother, Robert McFarland Jr. of New Castle; three sisters, Margaret Ward of Fombell, Roberta Quinlan of New Castle and Linda Deitle of Ebensburg, Pa.; three grandchildren, Madison, Maddox and Mackenzie; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 2 to 3 p.m. tomorrow at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road.
A service will be conducted at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Rev. Chris Weichman of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society, Box 62, New Castle 16103.
