New Castle offering summer school

NEW CASTLE — The New Castle school board approved plans for summer school classes.

The district will offer summer school to children in kindergarten through third grade with a $10,000 grant the district received from the Hoyt, Carolyn Knox and Community foundations.

Classes will be 9 a.m. to noon Mondays through Thursdays at the John F. Kennedy Primary Center and the Croton Pre-Kindergarten Center. Sessions will begin June 24 and end Aug. 1.

The program will be offered to all students in those grades who are identified as having academic need based on current assessments in math and reading. Materials and staffing costs will be covered entirely by the grant, according to information from the district’s administration.

The district also is offering a credit-recovery summer school program for students in grades seven through 12.

Subjects to be offered are English, math, science and social studies.

Each subject will have two sessions per day, Mondays through Thursdays. The sessions begin June 19 and end July 24. The students will be charged $100 per course.

It’s been a unique week on the marriage front. Actress Jodie Foster married her longtime girlfriend, while a lesbian trio that wed last year, who bill themselves as a “throuple,” have announced they are expecting. What’s your take on alternative unions?

I’m against it. I believe in one man, one woman.
I’m OK with it. As long as they’re adults, they can marry whoever they want.
A lesbian “throuple?” Really? SMH.
