Photo Gallery, Story: New Castle Black tops Shenango for youth football title

NEW CASTLE — New Castle Black beat Shenango 19-7 in the Tri-County Youth Football League Midget championship game at Glenn “Pop” Johnston Stadium.

New Castle got on the board first in Saturday’s game on a 44-yard run by Jaden Daniels in the first quarter.

Shenango got on the board on a 62-yard scamper by Jason Kraner, followed by Kraner’s extra-point run.

Demetrius McKnight scored on a 3-yard run for New Castle to put it up 12-7 at the half.

Daniels closed out the scoring for the eventual winners, catching a 7-yard screen pass from McKnight in the second half.

New Castle ended its season at 8-2, while the Wildcats closed out at 8-1.

Shenango quarterback Reis Watkins was taken off the field on a stretcher after suffering a possible head injury in the second quarter, but all tests were negative at the hospital, according to coach Gabe Schnell.

New Castle Black defeated Laurel and Shenango knocked off New Castle Red to advance to the title game.
