NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
Mary Ann Tofel in The News. No to yes, very newsworthy. I thank God my name wasn’t in the obituary column.
Explanation? The administration is very well aware as to why my vote changed.
Director of maintenance sat with the board on three different occasions, with his recommendation. Board tossed this endlessly. No solution.
I was under the assumption there was money allocated in the budget for an evening custodian.
Prior to our first vote, it became apparent money was available for a substitute only. Thus the “no,” as this would have affected our budget. Also, this route was not feasible as there could have been grievable issues between the district and custodial staff.
Having been an educator in the district for many years, I know the importance of having two custodians in the smaller buildings. These are too numerous to mention.
I touched base with some board members. The contingency fund was mentioned. Contact was made with business manager Joseph Ambrosini. Yes, we had funds to cover the remaining cost with the substitute amount already in the budget. Amen.
The end vote. Solicitor Charles Sapienza led me through proper protocol as adhered by “Robert’s Rules.” And therefore the “yes” vote.
John F. Kennedy will now have two custodians. Our students and staff will be in a clean environment to accompany an outstanding education. We are able to afford after-school and evening activities. Amen.
