NEW CASTLE —
The New Castle school board has changed its calendar to reflect winter makeup days.
Superintendent John Sarandrea noted that because it is still early in the winter, the calendar may have to be adjusted again if weather-related conditions require more cancellations.
Schools were closed Jan. 6 and 7 because of snow and temperatures that dipped below zero.
The semester’s end was extended to Jan. 22. Make-up days for students will be March 14 and April 17, which is Holy Thursday.
April 21 and June 6 and 9 also are designated as makeup days.
“The rationale was not to lose any days of instruction,” Sarandrea said, “and not to extend the school year.”
Because a Hurricane Tuesday — a professional development day for teachers — was missed on Jan. 7, employees must make up that day June 3.
As of now, the last day of school remains June 5.
