NEW CASTLE —
Testimony will resume Wednesday at a New Castle Area School Board public hearing to consider a charter school application.
Testimony, a record of which is being taken by a court stenographer, will begin at 6 p.m.
Organizers of the New Castle Arts Academy Charter School were posed with a multitude of questions from the school board at the initial hearing Jan. 9.
However, the school board did not conclude its questions at that time, nor did the public have time to pose any questions or comments.
Academy founder Debra Rice told the school board that it has broadened its choices of a possible location for the arts and languages-infused charter school, which would provide education for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Sites being considered are the Cascade Galleria, the former Day’s Inn and Banquet Center downtown and the former New Castle Regional Ballet building at 20 W. Washington St.
A community committee of the charter school includes co-chairs Dominique Karis and Cindy Biddle, and members Kenneth Cole, Leslie Michaels, Christina Stoner, Kimberly Koller-Jones, Becky Shields, Kiley Polio and Terrance Rice Jr., according to a Powerpoint presentation made at the previous hearing.
The board of directors for the school would be comprised of Cole, Biddle, Richard E. Rylott Jr. and Larry Macri, a local artist.
The board will have until March 15 to render its decision on the charter school proposal.
