New Castle Schools: Morell named junior high principal

NEW CASTLE — Carol Morell is moving up in ranks in the New Castle Area School District.

The board approved Morell as the new junior high school principal Monday, effective July 1. She is moving up from the assistant principal position.

Her salary for next school year will be $109,000.

The vote was 8-0-1, with Barbara Razzano abstaining because her husband previously held the position.

Morell succeeds Robert Razzano, who resigned a month ago after misconduct allegations against him.

A New Castle graduate, Morell had been in the assistant junior high principal post since July, when the board severed the job of assistant junior/senior high principal.

The board also accepted the resignation of Terence P. Meehan as assistant to the superintendent for curriculum, effective June 30.

Last month, Meehan was named superintendent in the Neshannock school district. He will succeed Dr. Mary S. Todora, who is retiring.

In other personnel changes, the board:

•Accepted the resignation of Beth Barber, director of technology, effective July 18. Superintendent John J. Sarandrea had said earlier the district is considering combining the post with the superintendent assistant position vacated by the retirement of Stanley Magusiak last year. The job has been open since then, but the merger will allow the district to eliminate one of the two open positions as a savings, Sarandrea said.

•Accepted the resignation of Luann Grybowski as physical education teacher, effective June 5.

•Accepted the resignation of Patty Christofer, a secretary at the West Side Primary Center, effective June 10. West Side is closing at the end of the school year.

•Re-elected Jack Camerot as school district treasurer. His pay was set at $5,570 and his bond at $100,000. Camerot has 35 years of service with the district.
