High School Golf: Neshannock, Shenango advance to WPIAL championship
The news was good for a pair of Lawrence County golf teams yesterday. Neshannock and Shenango high schools both advanced to the WPIAL Class AA Championship.

Neshannock came up a bit short yesterday. The Lady Lancers dropped all three singles matches in a 3-2 WPIAL Section 2-AA match at Pearson Park in the Coaches vs. Cancer Pink-Out event. “It was just a tough match,” Lady Lancers coach Chuck Dess said. “I thought we competed really hard; they’re a veteran team.

All the scores Wednesday night at Taggart Stadium were of the musical variety rather than touchdowns. The home of New Castle High’s football team was the site of the 33rd annual Lawrence County Marching Band Festival. Laurel High School, under the direction of Nathan Daubenspeck, was the host band.
High School Golf: Maciarello cards 72 to finish first in qualifier
Neshannock High’s Mike Maciarello rose to the top among Lawrence County golfers yesterday. Maciarello carded a 72 to finish first in the WPIAL Section 5 Class AA qualifier at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Pulaski. The top five golfers advanced to the WPIAL championship at 9 a.m. Monday at Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport.
Navy reservist thanks teachers, students
Cookies, cards, thoughts and prayers were sent by Neshannock teachers and students to Mike Moody while he served in Kuwait. Now safely home, the Navy reservist this week visited Neshannock Township school directors to express his appreciation and to present the district with a flag that few over his base in their honor.
High School Golf: Neshannock’s Kirkwood has busy, impressive day
It was a busy day for Marissa Kirkwood. Kirkwood, a freshman and daughter of Neshannock golf coach Mike Kirkwood, played 18 holes yesterday morning in the MAC Tournament at Black Hawk Golf Course in Chippewa. She placed 11th in the event with an 89.

The Shenango High girls volleyball team served up success in its opener last night. The Lady Wildcats started their season with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-18 WPIAL Section 3-A victory over Neshannock on their home court.
Neshannock class to hold 50th reunion
Neshannock High School’s “Cool Crew of ’62” will mark its 50th anniversary next month. The festivities will begin Sept. 21 with a meet and greet. That gathering runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at Tuscany Square.
