WPIAL Playoffs: Preview of Neshannock vs. Monessen
There will be nothing surprising when Neshannock and Monessen collide in quarterfinal action in the WPIAL Class A playoffs. The two teams come battle-tested. The Lancers (9-1) shared part of the tough Big Seven Conference title this season and the Greyhounds (9-1) came out of a Black Hills Conference that sent three teams to the playoffs.

Fans looking to attend Neshannock High football’s first WPIAL playoff game in eight years will need to be road warriors. The thirteenth-seeded Lancers will travel two hours south to Waynesburg High School to take on fourth-seeded Jefferson-Morgan at 7:30 p.m. today.

Sophomores in spotlight at annual career fair
The future was on display yesterday at The Scottish Rite Cathedral, and all the participants were feeling good about it. More than 700 sophomores from area high schools descended on the spacious site for the fourth annual Lawrence County Business and Industry Career Fair.

High School Golf: Neshannock’s Matt Cioffi advances to PIAA Championship
Neshannock High’s Matt Cioffi is headed to state. Cioffi, a senior, finished with a six-over par 72 at the PIAA West Individual Regional yesterday to advance to the PIAA Individual Championship.

The Neshannock High boys soccer team closed its season on a promising note despite a loss yesterday. The Lancers came up short in a nonsection home game against Central Valley, 2-1. Neshannock (5-12-1) is a Class A school, while Central Valley is a Class AA school.

High School Golf: Carone, Cioffi competing in PIAA western regional qualifier
Only the best golfers reach the boys PIAA Individual Championship. Lawrence County has two with that chance. Shenango’s Darren Carone and Neshannock’s Matt Cioffi will face off against 40 others in the western regional of the PIAA championship today at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville.

Ballfield makeover anticipated for Neshannock school district
Neshannock Township school directors are considering remedial courses for the district’s poorly performing ball fields. Board members and Dr. Mary Todora, superintendent, met at the school yesterday with TruGreen of Poland, Ohio, to determine what can be done to restore the softball and baseball fields.
