Neshannock contributes to banquet, rings

NEW CASTLE — The Neshannock school district will contribute toward championship rings for the softball team.

Ross Fischer of the Softball Boosters Club asked the district to contribute $2,000 so the team members can have a banquet and purchase rings. He said 21 rings are needed and the cost will be about $4,800.

The board unanimously approved the contribution of $2,000.

In other business the board:

•Named Jean Ann Hunt as acting board secretary to be paid $200 per month. This was approved on an 8-1 vote with Mark Hasson opposing.

•Hired Arthur Myers as a full-time custodian, effective starting Jan. 17. He had been a substitute custodian with the district.

•Hired substitutes Allyson Morici as elementary teacher, Kathleen Manickas as an emergency substitute and Ginger Ponziani as a para-educational/secretary/playground aide.

•Approved a family leave for Heather Collins from March 24 through June 6.

•Agreed to provide space for the New Castle Community Y to provide before and after school child care programs for students ages 5 to 12. The program is at no cost to the district. Parents making use of the program will contract with the Y for services.
