Over and back: Neshannock basketball coach rebounding from frightening stroke
All John Corey wanted was a picture. Not much else mattered at this point. A day that, at first, allowed him to spend time with his wife and three kids, ended with him clinging to a family photo and wondering if he would ever see any of them again.

Stricken coach pondered life without basketball
Maybe John Corey shouldn’t have been thinking about basketball, but he couldn’t help it. Corey, a teacher at New Castle High and the head basketball coach at Neshannock, suffered a stroke in evening hours of Jan. 16. He was in the hospital the next three days, was flown to Pittsburgh’s Presbyterian Hospital and, at one point, thought his life might be fading fast.

In The Schools: Neshannock settles with parent
The Neshannock Township School District has reached a settlement with the parent of a special-needs child. At its meeting this month, the board agreed to pay attorney’s fees and put money aside toward the boy’s education.

Neshannock to conduct kindergarten registration
Neshannock Elementary School has set kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year. Registration will be March 28 and 29 for students who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 15.

High School Hoops: Neshannock coach released from hospital
Neshannock High boys basketball coach John Corey was released from UPMC-Presbyterian hospital yesterday. Corey was rushed to Jameson Hospital on Monday night with an undisclosed illness and was transferred to UPMC-Presbyterian in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Neshannock hires Mozzocio as football coach
The search is over at Neshannock High. Fred Mozzocio was hired as Pat Cuba’s successor as head football coach of the Lancers. Prior to his appointment as Neshannock coach, Mozzocio served as an assistant coach at New Castle.

National Attention: Neshannock pair earn high honors
To be named a National Merit Semifinalist is one of the highest honors a high school senior can achieve. The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Neshannock class seeks classmates
Neshannock High School’s class of 2001 will have a reunion brunch on Dec. 23. Classmates will gather from 10 a.m. to noon at the Crane Room Grille on Wilmington Road. All 2001 alumni and Neshannock faculty are invited to attend.
