    For the second-straight match, the Mohawk High defense was perfect through regulation. Sewickley Academy needed a few extra minutes to capitalize. Last night in overtime, the Lady Panthers finally converted on one of their numerous scoring chances to post a 1-0 win over the Lady Warriors in a WPIAL Class A girls soccer semifinal at Ambridge High’s Moe Rubenstein Stadium.

    The postseason journey continues for the Mohawk High girls soccer team. And, it’ll stretch into November. Last night, the Lady Warriors assured themselves of at least two more playoff matches with a 1-0 win over Seton-La Salle in a WPIAL Class A quarterfinal match at West Allegheny High School’s Joe P. DeMichela Stadium.

    The future was on display yesterday at The Scottish Rite Cathedral, and all the participants were feeling good about it. More than 700 sophomores from area high schools descended on the spacious site for the fourth annual Lawrence County Business and Industry Career Fair.

  • money.jpg Mohawk school board OKs gas lease

    The Mohawk school district is getting a windfall of more than $340,000. The board approved a lease with Shell Oil, accepting $3,250 per acre to lease approximately 105 acres. The five-year, renewable lease agreement also includes royalties of 18 percent and a non-surface drilling agreement.

    All the scores Wednesday night at Taggart Stadium were of the musical variety rather than touchdowns. The home of New Castle High’s football team was the site of the 33rd annual Lawrence County Marching Band Festival. Laurel High School, under the direction of Nathan Daubenspeck, was the host band.

  • Mohawk OKs new visitor policy

    The Mohawk school board has approved a new visiting policy. Superintendent Kathleen Kwolek said the action revises a visitors policy that has been in effect since 2008. She noted all doors of the high school and elementary are locked at all times. Cameras at each door and security guards complete the policy.

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
