‘Heroes Among Us’: Mohawk students, Cathedral team up to salute local veterans
A Mohawk student organization honored “The Heroes Among Us” yesterday at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. For the 15th year, the school’s Future Business Leaders of America and the Scottish Rite Cathedral Foundation presented their annual Veterans Day program.

New school grading system unveiled Friday
The Pennsylvania Department of Education is rolling out its revamped system of grading schools Friday. One thing will be clear immediately: The state will be using two grading systems — one for schools with lots of poor students and another for every other school in the Commonwealth.
North Beaver site gets Keystone designation
As 250 acres return to tax rolls next year, 151 more will become in an effort toward economic development. A portion of former farmland in North Beaver Township is being designated as Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zone, meaning the acreage, deemed prime for business development, will be exempt from all taxes for 10 years.
Mohawk student takes part in prestigious hockey tournament
It’s been touted as the Little League World Series of hockey. The Brick Invitational Super Novice Hockey Tournament, a weeklong event held at the West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Alberta, pits the best 9- and 10-year-olds against each other in the largest squirt hockey event in North America.

Shelby Brown, flustered and teary-eyed, was overwhelmed. The year was 2010 and Brown, then a sophomore at Mohawk High School, was given starting point guard duties for the girls basketball team.
No tax increase for Mohawk
The Mohawk school board has approved a $21.7 million budget that holds the line on taxes. Board members this week approved the 2013-14 spending plan of $21,714,781, which is about $1 million greater than the current year’s budget. The additional funding, officials said, is because of money required for pension programs.
Mohawk approves contract at special meeting
Mohawk’s school board approved a contract to repair air conditioning at the elementary school. School board members, meeting in a special session Monday, awarded the $88,390 pact to Central Heating and Plumbing, the lowest of three bids received.
