Two girls basketball teams are bidding for history tonight. Only one will reach elite status, though. The Mohawk and North East high school girls basketball teams will meet at 7 p.m. today at Meadville High in the second round of the PIAA Class AA playoffs.

The New Castle district will begin registering students for the Croton pre-kindergarten program on Monday, Tuesday and March 14. Mohawk kindergarten registration has been scheduled for district children who will be 5 years old before Sept. 1.

Last week, the Bishop Canevin girls basketball team was Mohawk’s worst enemy. Last night, the Lady Crusaders were its best friend. The Lady Warriors clinched a PIAA Class AA playoff bid by virtue of Bishop Canevin’s 55-19 victory over Burrell in the WPIAL semifinals.
