No tax increase expected at Mohawk

NEW CASTLE — No tax increase is anticipated for the Mohawk school district.

The board introduced a $21,714,781 budget for the 2013-14 school year that is 5 percent more than the current budget of $20,703,767.

Superintendent Kathleen Kwolek said the millage remains at 13.09. She added the rate has not changed in the past four years.

The proposed budget will be on display at the school until final action is taken at the board’s June 17 meeting.

Kwolek noted there is no increase in health care costs. “Our consortium hit it right this year.”

The board hired nine professionals to fill retirement vacancies. They are:

•Music teacher Jason Zeh. He will be moved from half-time to full-time instructor in the 2013-14 school year.

•Junior high school reading specialist Romney Anderton.

•Elementary teachers Sharlee Burich, Heather Iorio and Carrie Tomon.

•Title I elementary teacher Courtney Castaldi, who will work with students eligible for reading and math assistance.

•Learning support teacher Nicole Nocera.

•Long-term elementary substitutes Tara Coyne and Marissa Stoner.
