NEW CASTLE —
The Mohawk Area School Board gave final approval to a 2012-13 budget that does not contain a tax increase.
The board approved the budget on a 6-1 vote. David Spears and Jonathan Laughner were absent. Scott Singer cast the no vote.
Property taxes will remain at 13.09 mills.
The board balanced the budget by taking $141,992 from its fund balance.
Anticipated expenditures total $20,703,767, while projected revenues are $20,561,775.
All school districts across Pennsylvania are awaiting passage of the state budget to see how much will be restored to them in subsidies and possible Accountability Block Grant funds.
Also at its meeting this week the board:
•Approved a five-cent increase in school lunch prices. High school students will pay $1.65 per lunch and elementary students $1.50.
•Hired the following teachers to fill vacancies resulting from retirements, changes in the special education program and/or increasing student enrollment in certain subject areas: Carla Gentile, Jamie Grego, Joshua Long special education classroom teachers; Lauren Parks, elementary Title I classroom teacher; Cameron Schirmer, vocational agriculture teacher; and Jason Zeh, half-time music teacher.
