    A Night at the Races has been set to raise money for equipping local police dogs with protective vests. Organizers said the effort was inspired by January’s death of Rocco, a Pittsburgh canine officer who was fatally stabbed by a suspect police were arresting.

    Lawrence County’s population has dropped again, according to estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau. The county’s population fell from an estimated 89,766 in 2012 to 89,333 in 2013. The loss of 433 people represented a drop of 0.5 percent.

  • Free blue bag giveaway to begin

    The city of New Castle will begin distributing free blue bags to residents on Tuesday. Bags will be given away in April and in May.
