County to send out unpaid tax notices
Lawrence County will mail reminder notices to people who have not paid 2013’s county property taxes. Anyone who receives the notice and believes it is in error should contact his or her mortgage company or the treasurer’s office at (724) 656-2124.
Homecoming: Former athlete Randy Crum returning to Neshannock as man of God
Randy Crum left Neshannock High School as a three-sport star. Now he’s going back with a triune God. Crum, pastor of Wayside Emmanuel Church and founder of Vision Ministries of Lawrence County, is planning his fifth quarterly crusade for 6:15 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Neshannock High auditorium.
Jail water bills rising
Rising water and sewage bills at the county jail might not be such bad news. On Tuesday, the county commissioners had to transfer $30,000 out of their contingency fund to cover an increase in water and sewage bills at the jail.
Vacate notice issued to residents
New Castle’s code enforcement department has issued a vacate notice to the occupants of a Hillcrest Avenue home. The house at 315 E. Hillcrest Ave. was the scene of a shooting Oct. 18 that left three people injured.
ESB Financial sees earnings growth
ESB Financial Corp. has announced earnings of 23 cents per diluted share for the quarter ended Sept. 30. The parent firm of ESB Bank said the earnings were on net income of $4 million as compared to earnings of 22 cents per diluted share on net income of $3.9 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2012.
Security increasing at courthouse
Visitors to the Lawrence County government center will notice tighter security. In the past, they have been asked routinely to empty pockets of any metal items and place them in baskets, put purses and other bulky items on a conveyer belt, then walk through a metal detector.
Veterans asked to record discharge papers
Local veterans should dig out their military discharge papers and take them to the courthouse. Once at the courthouse, a county official said, they can record these documents for free to expedite future applications for veterans’ benefits.
Pride and Promise: New Castle cafeteria cook makes sure students eat well
Former President George W. Bush made sure no child is left behind in education. In the New Castle Area School District, Deborah Abraham makes sure no child goes hungry.
Teachers, aides recognized for test scores
Three more West Side School teachers have been distinguished for helping their students to excel in state assessment tests. Teachers Jennifer Antal, Dana Prejsnar and Trina Sibeto were among five from the school who received the district’s Pride and Promise awards for October.
