NEW CASTLE —
The Lawrence County commissioners extended the contract of G.B. Sand to complete construction of the Millennium Boat Launch.
The company requested an extension, until Dec. 15, to complete work on the launch in Neshannock Township.
County planning director Amy McKinney, who made the request, said the weather has been a factor in the request for the delay.
At their meeting this week, the commissioners also:
•Announced hirings of a part-time telecommunicator for the 911 public safety center at $12 per hour and a part-time security screener for the sheriff’s office at $7.50 per hour.
•Agreed to continue the senior citizen nutrition transportation program for 2013. The county’s share is $2,575. The majority of funding for the program, $30,833, is provided through the Pennsylvania Lottery.
•Authorized seeking a $4,954 grant through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to be used to purchase the necessary equipment required to register sex offenders.
•Approved a grant agreement between the Staunton Farm Foundation and the drug and alcohol commission to receive reimbursement for drug court-related services, not to exceed $37,854 to run Jan. 15, 2013, to Jan. 14, 2014.
•Adopted the hazardous material emergency response plan for unconventional well sites, on behalf of the county department of public safety.
•Applied on behalf of the county juvenile probation office to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for a $43,425 juvenile justice system enhancement strategy grant for academic enhancement programs.
•Contracted with the Butler County Mental Health/Early Intervention/Intellectual Disabilities Program and Drug and Alcohol on behalf of Mental Health and Mental Development Services to establish a Health Care Coordination Unit.
•Extended a contract with United Concordia to provide dental insurance.
•Approved budget transfers for District Judge Jennifer Nicholson, maintenance, voter registration, liquid fuels, the district attorney, planning, sheriff, register and recorder and commissioners.
