NEW CASTLE —
More than a quarter of Lawrence County’s state-maintained bridges are structurally deficient.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said 73 of the spans it maintains in the county fall into that category. That figure represents 26 percent of state-maintained bridges here.
Across Pennsylvania, there are 4,476 state-maintained bridges considered to be structurally deficient.
However, the percentage is lower, at 17.6.
