NEW CASTLE — Lawrence County Social Services will receive $187,850 under a federal grant program.

The money will go toward the nonprofit organization’s Gen Y Transit Workforce Connection program, to train approximately 20 young adults for job readiness and pre-employment training in the transit industry.

Funding is being provided through the United States Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration Transit Workforce Grant Program.

The program is funding 17 organizations across the country with $7 million. The effort is intended to provide assistance with training and outreach aimed at attracting more woman, minorities and minority-owned businesses into the transportation field.
