Treasurer’s office mails dog licenses

NEW CASTLE — Dog license renewal applications were sent out Friday.

The Lawrence County treasurer’s office is reminding people that Pennsylvania law requires all residents to annually license their dogs that are 3 months old or more by Jan. 1 each year. Dog owners also are required to have their animals vaccinated against rabies.

Violations could result in a fine of up to $300 per day.

New dog owners can purchase a dog license at the county treasurer’s ofice between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays or from one of the outside agents. The locations and hours of those agents is available by calling the treasurer’s office at (724) 656-2123.

Dog licenses also can be purchased online at www.padoglicense.com.

The fee for productive dogs is $8.45 and for non-productive dogs, $6.45. For people who are 65 and older or on Social Security disability, the fees are $2 less in each category.

All dogs must have a valid license on them when they leave the owner’s property and any dog traveling in a vehicle must be secured.

The license tag will include the number of the county treasurer’s office to aid in the return of lost dogs. There also is a website available to assist with lost dogs — www.palostdogs.com.
