NEW CASTLE —
A Wilmington High graduate could use your help to boost his music career.
Billy Pennington, who received his Wilmington diploma in 2011, is enrolled at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh in the video effects and motion graphics program. However, he’s also part of an online music contest at artistsignal.com.
ArtistSignal is a free social music platform that allows listeners to vote for a top artist each month. The top artist at the end of the month $10,000. This allows listeners to propel talented artists to the top of the platform and gives artists a new avenue to grow their fan base.
Another $5,000 is split between all remaining artists based on the amount of votes they receive during the month (excluding the No. 1 artist). Also, voters can earn rewards directly from artists just by voting.
As of last week, Pennington was in sixth place.
To listen to Pennington’s music and vote for him, log on to artistsignal.com/billypennington. You can vote on the website, or click on a link to go the the Artist Signal Facebook page, where you can download a free cellphone app for voting.
You can vote once an hour.
Pennington is a dean’s list student at the Art Institute. He is a member of New Wilmington Presbyterian Church, where he was active with the youth group. In high school, he was a member of the band and chorus, as well as various music ensembles.
He writes all of his own songs and music.
A former member of the Speaking to Lions band, he occasionally plays now with a Pittsburgh college youth group. He also does some street performing in the Steel City.
