NEW CASTLE —
Eight candidates will be seeking nomination for New Castle City Council in the May 21 primary.
Voters will elect three council members this year — two to four-year terms and one to a two-year term.
Some of the names listed in Wednesday’s edition of the New Castle News as filing for council were incorrect.
Thirteen people took out nomination petitions, but five of them did not file by Tuesday’s deadline, according to the Lawrence County Board of Elections.
Filing on the Democratic side for both four-year and two-year terms are Councilwoman MaryAnne Gavrile of 320 Boyles Ave., current council president; Councilman Thomas Smith of 201 Englewood Ave.; and Anthony J. Adamo of 207 Second St.
Running for a four-year term are Jim Lombardo of 401 Duquesne St., former mayor Timothy Fulkerson of 416 Boyles Ave. and Michael Caruso of 1022 Williams St.
Two candidates filed petitions to be on the Republican ballot.
Rosemary Henderson of 506 Neshannock Blvd. is running for both terms and William Schafer of 1105 Dewey Ave. is running only for the two-year term.
