NEW CASTLE —
New Castle City Council has approved an agreement with a state agency to recover costs related to the weatherization program.
In 2010, the state Department of Community and Economic Development transferred operation of the program from the city to Lawrence County Community Action Partnership.
During the transfer, costs were incurred by the city and local venders who provided services for the program.
Under the settlement and release agreement with the state, DCED will provide a total of $25,061.85. The city will receive $13,611.08 and four vendors will receive the remaining $9,011.24.
Mayor Anthony Mastrangelo said the city will continue to try to get reimbursed for additional costs it incurred. The costs include payments covering sick days and vacation days for former weatherization employees.
Council approved payment to the individuals in 2011 from its contingency account after they had filed lawsuits. The mayor estimated the state owes between $75,000 and $100,000 as reimbursement.
