NEW CASTLE — A traditional Christmas open house has been set for McConnell’s Mill State Park.

The McConnell’s gristmill was the center of a traditional farming community that welcomed the Christmas season. So people are invited to take their family to try a craft and enjoy a different view of the mill in the winter season.

The park staff will welcome guests with hot chocolate and cookies. Visitors will learn about how to help the Pennsylvania state tree, the eastern hemlock.

The free open house will run from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 23, weather permitting. The mill is not heated.

Parking is at the Kildoo picnic area and and visitors must walk down to the gristmill. If walking is difficult, they can park by the mill or ask for assistance by calling the Moraine State Park office at (724) 368-8811 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
