State grant program offers heating aid

NEW CASTLE — Pennsylvania’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance grant program is now open for the 2012-13 heating season.

Grants are based on income, family size, type of heating fuel and region.

Eligibility guidelines for the season are set at 150 percent of the federal poverty income guidelines. The maximum income allowed is as follows:

•One person, $16,755

•Two people, $22,695

•Three people, $28,635

•Four people, $34,575

•Five people, $40,515

•Six people, $46,455

•Seven people, $52,395

•Eight people, $58,335

•Nine people, $64,275

•Ten people, $70,215

•For each additional person in the household, add $5,940.

Applications for the grants are available online via the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Access to Social Services website at www.compass.state.pa.us.

Applications also are available at county assistance offices, local utility companies and community service agencies, such as area agencies on aging or community action agencies.
