Section of Frew Mill Road to close

A portion of Frew Mill Road in Slippery Rock Township is scheduled close to through traffic Monday.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the closing is to allow replacement of a culvert pipe over Brush Run. It will continue until late July. The closing will take place weather permitting.

The affected section of road is between Route 19 and Hunt Road and will remain open to local traffic only. Signs will be posted to guide motorists.

The eastbound detour is: Turn left (north) onto Boak Road, then make a quick right and a left onto Hunt Road. Continue to Route 108. Turn right and continue to Route 19. Turn right and follow Route 19 to Frew Mill Road.

The westbound detour is in the opposite.

The project includes removal of the existing culvert pipe and wing walls and replacement with a new structure. The improvements are included in a $1.4 million contract with JET Excavating of New Middletown, Ohio, for improvements on several bridges.

PennDOT advises motorists to be prepared for changing travel patterns and to allow extra time when traveling through that area.
