Seven Lawrence County Housing Authority properties will receive $1.6 million in renovations, thanks to federal stimulus dollars.
Executive director Gene DiGennaro told board members yesterday how the funding will be allocated. The authority will install new windows, siding, handrails, floors, sidewalks and storm doors.
The properties have been targeted for specific work.
The funds must be spent by March 2010 and work finished by March 2012.
The board also elected new officers as it reorganized. William Betz remains president. Attorney Thomas Bashara was elected vice president.
They were selected in 3-0 votes. Board member Ernestine Wise also attended.
Michael Mancuso and attorny Lee Ann Fulena were not present.

Cascade Center plans need city grant funds
The Lawrence County Economic Development Corp. presented updated plans last night for development of the Cascade Center at the Riverplex. Linda Nitch, corporation executive director, told New Castle City Council that the agency has a sales agreement with S&T Bank to buy the building for $1.5 million.

A Croton Avenue man was arrested Saturday for grabbing the bottom of a 10-year-old shopping in Dollar Stuff. Shenango Township police were called to Lawrence Village Plaza about 1:30 p.m. Saturday to investigate an indecent assault.

County to amend smoking ordinance
The Lawrence County commissioners don’t want the public walking through clouds of cigarette smoke to get into government buildings. For that reason, they are amending the county’s no-smoking ordinance to create a designated smoking area for courthouse employees and the public.
