Wilmington loses school board member

The Wilmington School Board is down one member.

The board accepted the resignation of John Fauzey on Monday, effective Jan. 14.

In his letter to the district, he cited work obligations as his reason for leaving. He had been re-elected to a second four-year term in November, which began in December.

A replacement will be appointed by the board, which has been advertising the position in local newspapers. Whoever is chosen will serve until after the next municipal election in two years, when someone will be elected to fill the post for the remaining two years of the term.

Applications will be accepted until noon Feb. 5, and applicants will be interviewed publicly beginning at 7 p.m. Feb. 11, at the board’s next regular meeting.

An appointment also will be made that night, according to Superintendent Dr. C. Joyce Nicksick.

As of yesterday, the district had not received any applications.
