Man facing gun charges

An Ellwood City man — jailed for allegedly possessing a stolen gun — posted bond and was released.

Lawrence Gregory Tumlin Jr., 26, of 212 Franklin Ave., was arrested by state police following a traffic stop on Agnew Street in New Castle at 11:15 a.m. Friday.

Police said they had stopped the vehicle after observing traffic violations, then noticed a small, silver handgun on the front seat floor.

Tumlin was arraigned before District Judge Jerry Cartwright Jr. on charges of receiving stolen property — a Walther .380 handgun — two counts of illegal possession of a firearm, traffic violations and an expired vehicle inspection sticker. Additional charges are anticipated, Cartwright said.

Tumlin was placed in the Lawrence County jail on $5,000 bond, which he posted, according to jail officials.
