Wilmington School Board meeting on Oct. 15


At its meeting Oct. 15, the Wilmington School Board:

•Contracted with Dan A. Barnes for $4,500 to provide counseling services for the 2007-08 school year. This contract is paid through the Federal Drug-Free Schools grant.

•Continued a service contract with Doctor Dead Bug of Ellwood City for $140 per month plus $50 per call per site as needed.

•Named Mary Ann Wilson as middle school student council adviser for $1,600.

•Hired Caryn Bender and Erika Taylor to conduct morning tutoring sessions for ninth grade students at $16 per hour.

•Hired Rodney Stevens as an assistant cook at $7.85 per hour.

•Appointed Pam McNeely as a day-to-day substitute teacher for an anticipated four- to six-week vacancy.

•Increased the salary of van driver Sandy Gizdic by $5.90 per day. The additional compensation is because of a bridge that in Pulaski Township that closed Sept. 26.

•Extended a contract with Human Services Center to provide support services for students at no cost to the district.

•Hired Doug Ehrenberg as a substitute bus driver.

•Authorized vocational-agriculture teacher Joanna McKelvey and 25 students to attend the Pennsylvania State Farm Show in Harrisburg Jan. 7, 8 and 9, and for McKelvey and six students to attend the Pennsylvania State Leadership Conference in Harrisburg March 9, 10 and 11.

•Accepted a ninth-grade New Castle student as a vocational-agriculture program student, with tuition paid by the New Castle Area school district.

•Contracted with Slippery Rock University for two AmeriCorps workers to provide academic support during the school year.
